Here are some steps YOU can take to prevent secondary water damage before we arrive:

Turn off the source of water if possible.
Wear gloves, mask, and protect eyes.
If possible remove valuables, and place in a dry, safe location.
Check for the safety of children and pets.
Protect furniture by using foil, or plastic wrap to prevent water wicking.
Open the house to fresh air when the humidity is lower outside than inside.
Discard possibly contaminated food products – anything not in a water tight container.
Remove wet items such as furniture, rugs, bedding, toys, and carpeting to prevent mold growth.
Use extreme caution when discarding items that are mold contaminated.

Do Not:
Drink well water until it is tested.
Use newspaper on wet surfaces.
Do not use a vacuum cleaner to remove water.
Activate the HVAC system or adjust indoor temperatures.
Walk through an area with standing water.
Leave wet fabrics in place
Use home fans to dry wet surfaces.
Allow wet materials to sit in place for more than 48 hours.
Use electric tools or appliances while standing in water.
Allow open wounds, or cuts to come in contact with flood water.
